Annual HKAUW Postgraduate Scholarships (2011-2012)

Application Details

Aim
The Postgraduate Scholarships aim at recognising and encouraging female postgraduates who conduct high quality original research that are of significant value to our society and to the body of knowledge. Successful candidates should also demonstrate leadership in team work, achievements in their chosen disciplines through research and practice, and involvement in community service.

Award
Each HKAUW Postgraduate Scholarship recipient will receive a Certificate of Award and HK$20,000.

(I) Eligibility criteria
The applicant

  1. Must be a full member of the HKAUW
  2. Must be currently registered as a full-time female student (including both research and taught-based postgraduate programmes) in a local postgraduate degree-granting tertiary institution (designation determined by the HKAUW)
  3. Has recommendations from her supervisor, endorsed by the head of department or faculty/school in which she is currently registered
  4. Has outstanding academic achievements, personal aspirations and qualities
  5. Demonstrates leadership and involvement in community service, has contributions in her chosen disciplines, including a global outlook and the promotion of womanhood
  6. Is required to serve the community for at least half a year after she receives the scholarship which may include serving as a member of HKAUW Executive Committee

(II) Application procedure

  1. Complete the “Membership Application Form” to become a Full Member of HKAUW
  2. Directly deposit the full membership fee to Bank of East Asia account: 015-176-68-00002-2 via ATM machines, or through internet banking
  3. Staple the original ATM customer transaction advice, or in the case of internet banking, a printed copy of the bank’s acknowledgement statement which contains the payment reference number, to the Membership Application Form. Please write down your full name at the back of the transaction advice or bank’s acknowledgement statement.
  4. Retain a photocopy of the transaction advice as proof of fee payment
  5. Applicants are required to submit their applications through the Student Affairs Office of their institutions. HKAUW will NOT accept any submission of applications by individuals or through e-mail.
  6. The completed HKAUW Postgraduate Scholarship Application Form including only relevant information, a letter of reference from the supervisor endorsed by the head of department or faculty/school, completed Membership Application Form and proof of membership fee payment, together with all required supporting documents, must be received by HKAUW by 5:00 p.m. on 4th October 2011 via the Student Affairs Office of the applicant’s institution. HKAUW WILL NOT CONSIDER ANY LATE APPLICATION

(III) Interview

  1. Short-listed interview candidates will be directly notified by HKAUW by mid October 2011
  2. They are required to attend an interview on 5th November 2011. Applicants who will not be available for the interview are advised not to apply

(IV) Announcement of Results

  1. Scholarship recipients will be directly notified by HKAUW
  2. The Scholarship Convenor will notify the nominating institutions directly when the recipients are selected
  1. Applicants who are not notified by mid-December 2011 should consider their applications unsuccessful. HKAUW does NOT provide critiques for unsuccessful applications

(V) Presentation of Awards
a. Certificates and cheques will be presented to the scholarship recipients at an Awards Presentation Ceremony scheduled on 17th December 2011
b. Postgraduate Scholarship recipients are required to make a short presentation of their research topic at the Presentation Ceremony and attend the HKAUW’s Christmas Dinner on 17th December 2011. Absence will mean forfeiture of the award
